Tips for Summer Skincare

The hot summer weather can be unpredictable – sometimes it’s blazing hot, and other times it’s cool and breezy. No matter the temperatures, make sure you are consistently maintaining a good skincare routine. Here are some tips for keeping your skin healthy and looking its best this summer.

1. Drink Lots of Water

Proper hydration is vital for glowing, healthy skin, so drink plenty of fluids during the hotter months. It is probably the most important thing you can do for your skin (and overall health). Staying hydrated helps to keep your skin cells from becoming dried out, especially when you are sweating or exercising in warm temperatures. Fruit juices, herbal teas, and even sparkling water can help to keep your skin glowing.

2. Exfoliate Regularly

Regular exfoliation removes dead cells and reveals the silkier skin underneath. Sloughing off dead skin cells also helps to prevent clogged pores and breakouts and can help your sunscreen and other products work better. Clear skin helps these products seep into the deeper layers of your skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week should be enough to keep your skin feeling refreshed.

3. Wear Sunscreen

UV rays can damage your skin, even when it’s cloudy outside. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and ensure it provides broad-spectrum protection, even if you’re spending time outside for a short while. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or sweating. For added protection, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses in direct sunlight.

4. Invest in a Good Serum or Face Oil

A face oil or serum will help keep your skin hydrated and can be used under your sunscreen for an extra boost of protection. When the humidity rises, your skin can become oily and prone to breakouts. Choose a light, oil-free moisturizer to help control shine and keep your pores clear.

5. Don’t Forget About Your Lips

Lips are often forgotten in a skincare routine, but they are just as susceptible to damage from the sun and other environmental factors. Be sure to apply a lip balm with SPF daily, and reapply as needed throughout the day. In addition, consider using a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips weekly. That will help to remove dead skin cells and keep your lips looking smooth and hydrated.

6. Take Breaks from Heat Exposure

Too much sun exposure can lead to skin damage, so it’s important to take breaks from the heat whenever possible. One way to do this is to stay under an umbrella or tree in the shade. Another is to wear light, loose-fitting clothing that covers your skin. It would help if you also aired out your home or office to encourage circulation and help prevent your skin from overheating.

7. Eat Healthily

Eating a healthy diet is important for maintaining clear skin all year round, but it’s especially crucial during summer. When the weather is hot and humid, your skin can be more prone to breakouts, so, include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. These foods are packed with vitamins and antioxidants that help keep your skin looking its best.

8. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is important for all aspects of your health, including your skin. Getting enough rest will help to prevent dark circles and puffiness. It will also help your skin cells regenerate overnight.

9. Manage Stress Levels

Too much stress can lead to breakouts and other skin problems. Make sure to take time for yourself daily to relax and unwind. That can be as simple as reading a book, taking a bath, or participating in other activities you love.
