What are the features of tummy tuck?

Exercise, proper nutrition, and good habits are great ways to help boost immunity, build muscle tone, and keep body weight in check. While those are excellent benefits, these measures do not always produce the look that we want. Genetics, age, weight loss, prior surgeries, and pregnancies can all leave areas of stubborn fat and loose skin that obstruct our ideal body. Dr. Perry offers many body contouring methods to help patients achieve their desired look. One option for qualified candidates is the abdominoplasty, more commonly known as the tummy tuck. This surgical procedure removes excess belly fat, loose skin, and tightens weakened muscles, creating a flat abdomen.

Who is Qualified

There are certain parameters that patients must meet to be suitable for this surgery. Understand that this is not a weight-loss method, but rather a way to get rid of excess loose skin, fat, and tighten muscles. Patients should be in good health, close to their goal weight, and understand what can be achieved with this surgery. Women should also be done having children before this surgery.

What Happens During a Tummy Tuck?

During the procedure, anesthesia will be administered for patient comfort and safety. Some people use local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, others may use general anesthesia. Then, Dr. Perry will make a horizontal incision at the bikini line. He will start to remove excess skin, tighten any weakened muscles, and use liposuction to remove fat. After this, Dr. Perry will recontour the abdominal area. Once this is all complete, the incision(s) will be closed with sutures.

Is There a Recovery Period?

Tummy tucks require an extensive recovery period. Certain measures are taken to facilitate healing and reduce swelling. Most patients will use a compression garment to promote healing. Dr. Perry will provide instructions on self-care after the tummy tuck and schedule follow-up examinations with you to track healing. Patients can usually return to work within two weeks post-op. The initial recovery takes about 6-8 weeks in total, but patients may still notice some residual side effects for up to a year.

How Much Does a Tummy Tuck Cost?

Most insurance providers view this procedure as cosmetic and entirely elective. Each patient’s tummy tuck cost will vary depending on the techniques used, the amount of change desired, and more. Dr. Perry will give you an estimated cost for your customized tummy tuck during your in-person consultation.
