Which is Right for Me? Tummy Tuck or Lipo?
The midsection is a problem area for many people, but the cause of the issue is usually different for everyone, and therefore the solution will need to be different as well. Many prospective patients do not know which procedure will best suit their needs. When deciding which procedure is right for you, it depends on what is causing the round shape. Keep reading and we’ll share what types of concerns tummy tucks and liposuctions treat.
Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure in which fat cells are loosened and removed via a cannula with suction. This procedure is intended for both reducing fat while also shaping and contouring the body. A tummy tuck is most effective for patients that still have a certain level of skin elasticity as well as a strong abdominal wall. If a patient does not have a strong abdominal wall and good skin elasticity it is unlikely that a liposuction procedure will improve the appearance of their stomach. If the rounded appearance of the stomach is due to excess fat alone, liposuction may be right for you.
Who is a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck procedure is a procedure intended to tighten the abdominal wall and eliminate any sagging tissue, resulting in a flatter stomach. Patients with a considerable amount of excess fat most likely would not benefit from a tummy tuck and would be better off getting liposuction. Most patients experiencing a weaker abdominal wall and therefore loose or sagging skin experience this after pregnancy and childbirth.
